What is an eSIM (embedded SIM) card?

An eSIM card (Embedded Subscriber Identity Module) is physically built into the mobile terminal and cannot be removed to be replaced with another SIM card. The eSIM card is the transition from a traditional, removable SIM card to a SIM card inserted in a way that cannot be removed from the mobile device. The eSIM card eliminates the need for the UICC (Universal Integrated Circuit Card) removable external physical media. The credentials, security parameters and IMSI (International Mobile Subscriber Identity) are inserted into the eUICC, which is an integral part of the device.
